Size and function customisation is the part buyers underestimate. Two carriers can share a fabric, a colour and a logo and still sell into completely different channels because one folds flat for e-commerce and the other holds a rigid base for airline use. We work from three size platforms, then layer function: carry system, closure, convertible structure and tech add-ons. Each layer has a cost and a lead-time consequence, and we quote them separately so a buyer can choose where the money goes.

Size platforms and fit

Three platforms cover the market: small up to 6 kg, medium 6-14 kg and large 14-25 kg. Body length decides the platform more often than weight, because a long-backed but light animal outgrows a panel cut for a compact body. Each platform shares the same attachment points, so rain covers, wheel sets and replacement straps transfer across sizes without new tooling - which is what makes a three-size launch affordable on a 500-piece minimum.

Convertible structures and tech add-ons

Convertible design is where private-label lines differentiate: a backpack that folds flat for e-commerce, an expandable gusset that doubles carry volume for travel, a detachable shoulder strap that turns a carrier into a tote. Each conversion adds pattern pieces, hardware and a failure point, so we validate them by cycle rather than by inspection - 200 open/close cycles on a folding frame, and a loaded drop test on any wheeled configuration.

Tech add-ons are specified last because they carry certification cost. Reflective webbing is cheap and improves night visibility; LED strips and USB ports need electrical certification for the destination market; a GPS tracker pocket is passive and therefore free of that burden. We will tell you which add-ons change the compliance scope before you commit to them on a sample.
